Magic Points and Ascensions

Magic Ranks
This section may change during beta! Some rewards may change or will be replaced entirely. Be aware!
Magic in Rexalia is moreso an aid to everyday life than a combat ability. It is a learned skill that increases with practice as a Rexal experiences the wonders and trials of the world. A Rexal's magic potency is denoted by their Magic Rank. Those with more developed magic will have the confidence to explore dangerous areas and attempt complicated tasks, in turn yielding greater results than their peers.

Rexals celebrate three significant life events that recognise a change in their social status. These are called Ascensions and are logged in the Galeria Tab of the Rexal's profile. Ascensions must be completed in order and cannot be attempted without the appropriate Magic Points.

Rexals who do not complete their Ascensions cannot progress to the next tier of Magic Rank.

Overview

Each rexal's Coming of Age Ceremony (CoAC) is a little different, and the term is somewhat a misnomer. For most in fact, there is no ceremony at all. When a rexal's throat armor finishes growing, typically at age 30, it signifies that they have reached adulthood. It symbolises a change in their life, their peers will entrust them with increased responsibility and their words and actions will carry greater weight than before.

Some Rex choose to mark this milestone by undertaking a trial to test their physical and mental limits and prove they are worthy. Others prefer enter a period of reflection, remembering the lessons of the past and walking tall in the knowledge of the person they've become.

Upon completing the CoAC it will be displayed on your rexal's 'Galeria' tab and your rexal will be granted 5 breeding slots (or more, depending on their MP). Note that any rexal that completes their CoAC is considered an adult within the game, regardless of how you choose to portray them in your own lore.

Prompt: An Open Heart for Those in Need
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Being an adult comes with the responsibility that sometimes you have to do what you know in your heart is the right thing, regardless of the consequences. You must push your fears aside and jump to the aid of someone else, even if you end up putting yourself in danger or going against popular opinion. Your moral compass guides you and although your peers may judge your actions, it shows that you are ready to be an adult!

The situation is dire and you must act quickly to save someone or something from harm! There are many dangers within Rexalia, from wild animals in the Dome, to unprepared divers in the Trench or inclement weather on the Islands.

Depict your rexal helping another living being in a tricky situation!

Prompt: Artistry for the Sky
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Examples of exemplary artisans can be found throughout the world of Rexalia, with even just the markets of Atlas being home to a myriad of fine paintings, sculptures, jewelry, woodwork, and metalcraft alike. While taking up the craftsman's mantle may seem easy compared to the toil of the farmhand, the path for creation isn't so simple, or any less work. Afterall, the finest wares were not simply made by hand and will alone, they started as the finest materials, collected tirelessly from either the calm wilds of the Dome or the unknown frontiers of the Posian Islands. It can be troublesome to venture into the unknown to collect the needed supplies, but the passion for your chosen craft makes it well worth the effort. Materials such as wood, clay, and stone are easy to find, but a feat to transport, whereas gemstones and pigments are easy to carry, but may take days of searching to find.

Your Rex may have to venture into perilous terrain such as river banks, canyons or gullies in order to find what they need!

Depict your rexal collecting supplies for an artistic endeavour!

Prompt: Love can be the First Bite (memory prompt)
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Tastes, like smells, can bring about strong memories. Whenever you have this food, it takes you back.. maybe to comfort and home, or perhaps to your first voyage across the seas. The first time you sampled this food, you knew it was the one... or perhaps it wasn't love at first bite? What's your favorite dish and how did you come to enjoy it so much? Maybe it is less about the taste of the food itself, and more about the people you were with at the time?

This can be any dish fitting into the lore (no cheeseburgers, however sad that is indeed...).

Depict the memory your rexal has about this specific food!

Prompt: Darkness Awaits
Location: The Posian Trench

Even those that fear nothing, fear the unknown. You will have to demonstrate your ability to work through your fear and keep a level head by swimming to the bottom of the Posian Trench for the first time in your life. It is a deep, dark, hole that is said to lead straight into the underworld. Those who are brave enough to take the plunge will find out that, in reality, it leads to a wondrous trench full of bioluminescent flora and fauna. For generations rex have descended into the glowing abyss in search of time-lost artifacts, a shard of pottery or perhaps some old trinket from a long lost ship. However the true treasures are the enormous skeletal remains and the crystalline structures that grow out of them, though every rex who travels to the trench will tell tales of the overwhelming urge to avoid touching them.

The way to the deepest part of the Posian Trench may be pitch black, however, on its bottom, there is a glowing haven of wonders. Many deep sea plants and animals inhabit this area.

Depict your rexal exploring the lit up part of the Trench!

Prompt: Offerings to the Ancients
Location: The Dome

While it's not uncommon for rexals to hunt, this particular one is steeped in ceremony and tradition. Your quarry is not for yourself, but is to be an offering for the Ancients, without whom the prosperity and peace of the Dome would not exist. Stalking such an animal might take you several hours or even days, and you will have to rely on your senses and magical ability to ensure your success. Rex are encouraged to use common hunters tools such as a bow and arrows or spears, as the Elders will be delivering your offering and will no doubt offer some judgement upon you if the kill isn't clean or you come back injured.

The animals you hunt are adult stags and boars. They are not easy foes, but they also cannot see a Rex's magic - perhaps that can be used to your advantage!

Depict your rexal stalking, hunting or taking down either an adult stag or a big boar!

Prompt: Cold From the Sky (memory prompt)
Location: The Dome

Encountering snow for the first time is always memorable. The Elders of the Dome are able to control the weather within it, and when they decide it's wintertime, the white flakes will fall from the magical sky to cover the fields and forests in a thick blanket of snow. Not everyone is a fan, though.

Most rex are born in the spring or summertime, but perhaps your rex was a winter baby?

Depict your rexal encountering snow for the first time!

Prompt: Nightly Navigation (memory prompt)
Location: Dome & Posian Islands

The surface is home to a sky full of twinkling stars, and these nightly lights can offer guidance to those who can read them. Even denizens of the Dome may learn these skills thanks to Caelum's precise representation of the surface's stars.

The cool night air offers markers to Dome and sea-faring travelers alike. How does your rex make use of these twinkling lights?

Depict your rexal using the stars to find their way in the world.

Prompt: Treasure Hunters
Location: Posian Islands

Exciting treasures can be found in many odd corners by those with the heart to seek them out. To prove your mettle, search high and low to find something interesting to bring home. You might need to navigate dangerous riptides and tricky currents to explore majestic stone arches for lost baubles. Perhaps you will have to decide how to deal with a menacing shark blocking your way, or scale a cliff to retrieve a shining piece of glass wedged among the rocks.

Not all treasures must be valuable. What can you find in the shallows and cliffs around the islands?

Depict your rexal hunting for a shiny prize to bring home!

Prompt: Mind the Gap
Location: Posian Islands

The Posian Isles are an archipelago, but the waters that course between them are far from tame. There's as many reasons not to try and swim from island to island as there are boats in the Posian Isles. But many youth consider it a rite of passage into adulthood to swim across the channels between the islands, fighting the swift currents and hopefully not encountering some of the more aggressive local aquatic wildlife.

Sharks, seals, walruses and whales frequent the churning waters between the isles looking for food, and dangerous undertows threaten to pull rexals under at any time.

Depict your rexal swimming across the channel between Posian Islands!

Prompt: When the Fleet Comes to Port (memory prompt)
Location: Posian Islands

It's not often the entire Posian Naval Fleet comes into the harbor, as they are usually busy escorting trade ships and hunting pirates. But on rare occasions, the Admiral calls all their ships to port, and its typically a great celebration across the Isles when it occurs. Old friends catch up and loved ones are reunited with family, while new friends (or enemies) are also made.

Such an monumental event usually leaves a long-lasting impression on a young rexal!

Depict your rexal's first time celebrating this grand occassion!

Prompt: Sea Legs (memory prompt)
Location: Posian Islands

Living on the Posian Islands one is bound to set sail sooner or later. Some rex begin sailing early whilst others toil upon the land and don't earn their sea legs until their adulthood. What was your Rexal's first experience upon a large ship? Did they stow away as an easy way to cross the Islands? Perhaps they took up a mercantile trade, or maybe they enlisted in the Navy or joined a Pirate vessel?

Whatever the case, the hazards of a first time mariner are often not the Navy or Pirate fleets, but rather turbulent tides, crazed crewmates or substandard sustinance. How did your rex fare on their first foray onto the high seas?

Depict your rexal's first time on a proper seafaring vessel!

Prompt: First Impressions (memory prompt)
Location: Posian Islands

The Posian Navy dutifully protects and serves the Posian Islands, but not everyone is a fan. Their influence over the islands can have a lasting impact on young minds. What was your Rexal's first encounter like? Was it influenced by the opinions of their guardians, or individually formed? Did the Navy help or hinder them in a time of need, if your Rexal can even say for certain?

Whether for good or ill, first impressions often carry a lot of impact. You should explore a formative experience your rex has had with a Naval officer. What made this individual so memorable?

Depict your rexal's first impressions of a Navy officer!

Prompt: Times We Teach
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

One cannot interact with others without learning some life lessons; intentional or not, positive or negative.

The someone that was taught doesn't have to be another rex. It can be an animal, or even themselves if it ended in a habit...

What has your rexal taught someone in the past? Did they mean to do so?

Prompt: Tasks Of Everyday
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Now that you've been living for a while, you find yourself having a fairly set schedule for your day. Most benefit from daily tasks.

You don't have to depict all of the day. Simply show one thing your rex does every day.

What does your rexal's daily schedule look like?

Prompt: Wishes We Wished
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

When we are young, we all have a very certain plan for the future. That plan doesn't always go like we want it to and sometimes we end up somewhere entirely else...

This does not have to represent what is now. Show us what could have been!

What were your rexal's plans for the future when they were young? How does it contrast with their present?

Prompt: Visible Memories
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Scars and injuries are proof that we are alive. And yet, they hinder our everyday life, sometimes to a great extent.

This is a great prompt to explain how your rex aquired certain scars or amputations.

Which of your rexal's injuries was the worst?

Prompt: Mistakes We Remember (memory prompt)
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Becoming the person you aim to be isn't easy. There are plenty of stumbling blocks along the way and mistakes to be made. However, those shape us and the path we walk.

This is a memory prompt, which means it plays in your past.

Is there a particular mistake that your rexal doesn't want to recall?

Prompt: Gifted History (Memory Prompt)
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Objects can hold significance. Family heirlooms, promises made physical, or markers of a milestone can leave lasting impacts on a Rex as they age.

Someone gifted your rex something of significant emotional or historical value. What is it? How does it make them feel?

What gift lingers with your rex?

Prompt: Kismet Demands
Location: The Dome

All life is precious. At least that is what they say. Maybe you have pondered about this before, but now the time has come where you must decide if you truly follow these words or if you will actively stand against it. Someone that has done you wrong before has fallen into the river Cor and is unable to escape the currents. Will you jump in to help or will you close your eyes?

The river Cor, that runs through the heart of the Dome, is big enough to hold ships and boats and it may be difficult to get them out safely if you try. Keep this in mind!

Whats your rexal's reaction to this situation! Will they help?

Prompt: The Surface
Location: The Dome

The first time leaving the Dome and travelling to the surface can be scary, but it's a rite of passage for most rexals.

There are ships on the surface that are ready to pick up those that travel to the surface. But perhaps, your rex ended up somewhere else?

What was breathing the fresh air like for your rexal?

Prompt: Pirate Encounter
Location: Posian Islands

Those who make a life for themselves on the Posian Islands do so knowing they could face all sorts of dangers. One of these coming in the form of their delinquent neighbors: the pirates of Crimson Cove. Whether a naval officer, a merchant, a rexal with a strong sense of adventure, or just a common citizen, a confrontation with one of these pirates is not a trifle to be taken lightly.

There are more ways to dissuade a pirate than bloodshed...

What was your rexal's first pirate encounter like?

Prompt: Choices We Make
Location: Posian Islands

To live a life on the surface is to be faced with innumerable choices about the sort of life you lead. What brought you to the Posian Islands? Were you originally a Domelander, searching for a new life? If you were always an Islander, did you remain committed to your homeland? Perhaps you took up the call to become a member of the navy. Or perhaps, you took the different, more perilous path of joining a pirate crew…

There are more ways to dissuade a pirate than bloodshed...

Depict your rexal making a pivotal choice in their life. Whether that be their decision on choosing where to call home, or where their loyalties lie!

It is not the end, but certainly a resting point; when a rexal finally finds a place to belong, be that a home or comfort in their own wanderings. This is a period of life of comfort and passion, where a rexal truly feels accomplished in all they have done. They can look back and appreciate the journey they have taken in preperation for the steps they plan to take ahead.

Upon completing the Divinity of Eternity (DoE), your rexal will achieve the magic rank of Divine (congratulations!) and will be eligible to use the Divine Halo variant or a custom halo on their import.

Prompt: Tailored By The Past (memory prompt)
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

To end up at this point in your life, you had to go through certain events that you aren't too fond to recall. However, to find one's place in this world, you must accept the past that lead you to your destination. What was it for you that brought you here? Was there once certain hardships that you had to overcome? A point in your life that shaped your future?

Draw what your rex remembers. Is it accurate or completely fabricated? Maybe it's simply exaggerated...

Depict or write about your rexal's past big event that shaped their future!

Prompt: Vow To The Dreams
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Dreams are wonderful and beautiful things. We dream of the stars and the heavens, the depths of what lays beneath the surface of the earth. Nightmares flavor the nights, just like the wonders of the dark unknown, deep within the fog that rolls upon the lands. We cannot escape what emerges when we sleep, but we can control and mold them with enough willpower.

You're welcome to get very abstract with this prompt, but please keep in mind that they cannot dream of anything they don't have knowledge of. Lore accuracy is key.

Depict or write about a dream that stuck with your rexal!

Prompt: Reflections Around Us
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

Our lives are shaped by a great many things. For some, those around us make us the person we end up being. For others, perhaps it was just your ingrained nature, the convergence of various souls of the ancients before who would eventually become you. What does your place in the world mean to you? Are you merely one of a greater whole? Or are the dangers of the world and limitations placed by others merely obstacles to be overcome?

Display your rexal’s place in the world! Either how they see themselves, or the universe around them. Feel free to get creative with this prompt!

Depict or write about your rexal!

Prompt: If One Thing Is Sure It's I Wanna Hear Your Lore
Location: Anywhere in Rexalia

This prompt has near total freedom, provided it adheres to the lore restrictions of Rexalia. As our characters grow they develop traits that become well known even to other artists in our community. This is the culmination of all your efforts - put all your strength into this last prompt and give it your all!

Showcase your rexal in a way that defines them as a character.

Depict or write about your rexal!

What are MP cards? What do they represent?

Are also known as "MP Logs", this is how we grow our rexes and interact with them! Whenever you (or someone else!) creates art or literature involving your rexal you can submit it for magic points (MP). You can submit an MP-Log per rexal in a piece, though the amount of MP each earns may differ.

There are several types of submissions:

  • "Loose MP" (ie. submissions which do not fit any of the below categories).
  • Activity Rolls
  • Quests and Events
  • Ascensions
  • All submissions grant MP and all submissions must follow our Art Requirements. There may be additional requirements based on the type of submission, which can be found on the linked pages.

How to Submit Your Art & Writing

Our handy on-site tool, the MP Counter, will guide you through counting and provide you with all the proper forms in one place! Read the descriptions for each section carefully and fill them out to the best of your ability before submitting. It can be found here:

    MPcounter

Do not worry about being perfect, our mod team will adjust the points if needed! You will never be punished for mistakes. We are truly here to help!

    In the submit section:

You will see a dropdown with a list of your personal rexal.

Choose the rex you want to submit MP for. Each rexal needs their own MP counted separately. This means that you cannot choose multiple rex, but will have to submit multiple cards, one per rexal you own in the art.

Put the gallery number of your submission in this field. Remember to only put the number (ex. "12") and not the URL!

    - If the artist has an account, they'll upload it to their gallery. If the artist is off-site, you may upload it yourself with proper credit!

    - You can also leave a note in the field below it or "tag" your work (ie. if you are submitting a comic or MP sheet) so moderators know which "panel" to judge!

Be careful and double check! If you submit with the wrong link you must delete your MP card which will reset your place in the queue.

Select what type of MP card you are submitting. "Just MP" is the default option and requires no further information. If you are submitting an activity, ascension, or quest: fill out the rest of the form! Any category bonuses will be automatically added when your card is approved.

Now you can submit! The card will now appear on your rexal's MP tracker.

    NOTE:

The fields will not clear on submission. This is useful for MP-Sheets or comic panels. Make sure that you change the values yourself if you want to submit a new piece of art.

If you accidentally submit the same card twice, please delete it. There are instructions for how to do that below.

    Explanation of Fields

To access all of your rexal's current MP cards, click on the twinkle icon from the spread of buttons. Here you may also see your rexal's total overall MP and their total approved / confirmed MP.

This is one MPLOG Card. It will be created after you hit submit in the MP Counter. Each row represents a different category for receiving MP in the submission.

This is the ID of the specifc counter card. They are not specific to your rex, but to the whole game, which makes them unable to be mistaken for another one when talking about specific cards with mods!

Made a mistake? No worries. You can either click delete to delete the whole card, or edit the card by hand. This will not give you the convenience of the MPcounter, though and you have to manually edit.

When done, click Update to save your changes!

These two tags indicate if an MP moderator went over the count to lock your MP in.

If approved the Update button will vanish for you!

You can still delete the tracker card, should something happen to the link or with the art, but it will be subtracted from the MP total again and has to be resubmitted.

    PLEASE MENTION IF RESUBMITTING!

    Getting your MPLOG-Cards approved

Once you have submitted the card, you have nothing else to do, but wait! Our busy-bee admins will clear the website's queue and review your submission once it’s your turn.

    You may receive a
communicationYour communications tab can be found on your profile. This is where moderators will communicate with you about your submission.
letting you know that some of the MP totals for a card have been re-adjusted, or if the piece doesn’t meet all the requirements to be approved.

Do not fear! Our mods will do their best to help you and if you have any questions just ask them.

    Recounts and Corrections

If you receive a correction, your submission will "moved" to our corrections queue. This is a "separate line" from the normal submissions; allowing us to re-judge your card faster and so you can take as much time as you need to update your submission (provided it is not part of a timed event). Time-sensitive happenings such as the Travel Adivsor and Events are assessed by your initial date of submission, *not* your update time, so don't feel the need to rush!

When you've updated your work and are ready to resubmit, reply to the original corrections comment and your card will be re-evaluated.

If you have a question, you may reply to the original corrections comment! Updated submissions and questions will be reviewed within the usual timeframe (please wait 2 weeks before asking for updates in the discord).
