Blessing of Life

Ever since Alyanna had grown up enough to start her own business, it had pretty much begun to become her daily life. Of course, that meant she had her regular timetable she followed. She started with getting up around 8am, needing at least half an hour to properly wake up. Her morning routine started with simply nibbling on bread, which she made on the weekends. And from then on, the work started.

The soft chime of the bell told her of the new customer that came into the shop. Looking up she turned her head to face the door, where a blue, female rex stood. A soft sigh escaped Alyanna, putting down the piece of fabric that she’d just wanted to put up as an example for customers. “Hello, Kamille. Is everything alright, dear?”, she asked, looking at the young rex that really enjoyed making her life just a little bit harder.

Kamille chuckled, avoiding her mothers gaze, looking off to the side in the workshop.”Yeah, all is good.”
“Then what do I owe your visit in my shop?”, she asked, now walking over to the ocean colored rex, leaning down to really get into the face of her daughter.

She blinked, then chuckled amused, before grinning. “How about you don’t see me as your daughter today, but as a customer?”, Kamille asked. As she spoke, she pulled up some fabric that had been folded together multiple times. Alyanna looked down at it, recognizing the mix of white and red as her shirt that she wore when she was out and about on her merry travels.

Alyanna sighed softly, opening it up, while she could basically see that Kamille began to move more on her toes. “Did you tear it again?”, she asked, looking back at her daughter. The ocean colored rex continued to look anywhere but at her mother. “It’s not even been two weeks since I’ve last fixed it.”

“I know, but we struggled a bit with a creature that was - “

“I don’t even want to know”, Alyanna cut that down, sighing. That also had become part of her daily routine. Worrying about her daughter, that oh so much desired to jump into any and all dangerous situations.

With another sigh, she turned around and walked over to her worktable, setting the shirt down. Kamille grinned, then quickly followed after to look her mother over the shoulder, licking her lips lightly. “Are you sure you don’t want to know?”

“Yes”, Alyanna replied, picking up a thin needle and pulling a string through it. Forcing herself to relax, she then carefully spread out the shirt, showing the deep cut. For a moment she was silent again, before she looked back at Kamille. “Are you sure it is only the shirt that is cut?”

Kamille immediately nodded. “Yes, don’t worry too much. Just focus on your tailoring job”, she hummed, sitting back down on a nearby chair for customers to wait on. Alyanna sighed, shaking her head before she basically did as told. She started to carefully seam the fabric back together, now fully focussed on her task. It was basically in her blood by now, every single movement of her arms, the way the needle had to rotate and turn. The shirt was covered in quite the amount of stitches already, though Alyanna was quite good in making them appear basically invisible.

Her daughter never really understood her fascination with fabric, style and the like. That was something they never really agreed on. While Alyanna worked on clothes to be beautiful and gorgeous, Kamille was all for practicality. If it didn’t provide that, why care for the looks of it? Alyanna’s lips twitched slightly upwards. Yeah, when they bonded, they more did so with jewelry and ore.

That too was part of the regular life of Alyanna by now. She was a tailor, an explorer within the dome, a mother. She looked over her shoulder, pausing her work, smiling as she saw Kamille buried deep in some kind of magazine as she waited. A soft chuckle escaped the pyrite coloured, then she continued her work.

“Oh, mom!”, Kamille suddenly chirped, getting Alyannas attention again as the rex dipped in the colour of the sunset looked up. The blueish rex held up the magazine, pointing at one of the tunics with her claws. “This looks kinda familiar!”

“I wonder why”, Alyanna chuckled, continuing to work on carefully stitching together the hole. “It is based on your sketches, after all.”

Kamille grinned, watching her mother before she set down the magazine again, eyeing the tunic. “Perhaps I should have followed in your footsteps instead of running after Elyas after all”, she grinned, her eyes peeled on the magazine.

Alyanna hummed, carefully pulling the fabric a bit more towards her, eyeing the stitches she’d made. “You certainly wouldn’t have to bring your destroyed clothes to me anymore then. However you keep doing this.”

She heard the shuffling of paper, then heard the heavy footsteps of her daughter, before Kamille simply flopped against her mothers back, holding onto her ears as she’d done ever since she was but a small child. “So you want to hear of my adventures after all?”
“Only if you leave out the bloody details!”, Alyanna immediately said, raising her hand and waving the needle a bit. “You know the more you make me worried with these, the less I want you to go back out there.”
“Not as if you could change much about that anyway”, Kamille hummed, giving her mother a kiss on the cheek before she turned onto her back, further leaning against Alyanna. “It was a beautiful day, barely a cloud on the horizon! Seriously, I’ve never seen a sun that clear. The ship we had anchored in front of a lonely island, one of the posians. You’ve been to some of them too, I know. Well, regardless - at such a place we didn’t expect much danger, still close enough to the dome. And then, BOOM! Giant crabs along the beach! Four times the size of me!”

As Kamille spoke, Alyanna could feel the arms of her daughter move, sometimes jabbing into her in enthusiasm, yet she never perked up. Instead she continued her work, concentrated and still listening to her daughters tale, though the idea of her fighting against giant crabs already made her feel a little bit less certain about allowing her back on the pirates ship. But yeah, she couldn’t do anything about it either. She wasn’t one to shackle her children to her home, even if she believed them searching out the wide world of the fog was too dangerous.

No, instead she preferred to live her life as they lived theirs. Where Kamille always had a different routine, Alyanna was always in the same. Wake up. Work. Sports. Perhaps some more work. And while she worked, listening to her childrens tales always helped her grow even more certain in what she did.

This regular life was good. It brought her and in turn her children money and the ability to live. Give them the ability to do what they wanted.

The daily life for some might seem boring. For others it might be repetitive.

Alyanna thought, it was just right the way it was.

Coming of Age Ceremony

Usually Alyanna would be a long way before she’d consider herself a proper hunter. She preferred to let the others hunt the big prey, she herself was much more of a small and easy hunter. But the ancients wouldn’t be quite impressed if she’d only delivered a hare or a bird, so she had to actually try.

Today marked the third day that she’d trekked through the woods, stalking the same herd of deer and stags since day one. She’d had her eyes completely focussed on the largest of them, adorned with a dark, chocolate looking coat and deep, brown eyes. Thin scars already adorned its pelt, showing that it had endured quite some attacks already. Had they been from a rex? Maybe, maybe not.

Well. Now he was her prey. And she was just waiting for an opportunity to attack. For the stag to move away just a little bit more, to get some more distance between him and the rest of the herd. But somehow he’d always been close to the others, not yet giving the rex the chance to strike.

But as all knew, patience was key and she felt that today would be the day. She’d finally get what she’d been waiting for. A chance. And she’d make this her offering to the ancients, finally getting the approval to continue life as an official adult.

Alyanna was almost lost in her thoughts when the stag moved away from his herd, beginning to nibble on a fresh patch of grass. Alyanna blinked, watching as the other then moved further away, unnoticed by the stag. Ah, there it was. The opportunity she’d been waiting for.

Before the stag could notice that he had more distance between him and the herd than he’d wanted, she stormed out from her hiding place among the bushes. On all fours she sped towards the stag, her lips drawn back as a loud snarl escaped her. The stag looked up and turned his head to look at her as she approached fast. He didn’t even try to look back for his herd, instead letting out a grunting sound and lowering his head, his antlers pointed towards Alyanna.

The rex narrowed her eyes, shifting onto her backlegs just when she reached the prey of her choice. With a loud roar she grabbed onto the antlers of the creature, just as it tried to push forward.

Alyanna tried to snap forward and let her jaws shut, but she didn’t quite managed to reach his neck. Instead another sudden push against her caused her to almost stumble, though she still managed to push her claws into the ground and hold herself against the force. The stag snorted as he basically began to push against a rock, then decided to change tactic. He pulled his head back, making Alyanna stumble forward as the force she used to block the stags previous pushing now caused her to fall forward, needing for her to catch herself. The stag used that moment to now completely pull his head and antlers out of her grasp, yet thrusting back forward merely a second later.

Alyanna twitched and tried to move to the side, baring her teeth when she felt his left antler cut against her shoulder, making her glance down. Crimson blood oozed out of the deep wound that opened up, a burning flame of pain rushing through her veins.

A pained yip escaped her when the reality of it being a rather deep and long wound sunk in, though she had no time to actually focus on it. The stag already went in for the next attack, his hooves pushed against the ground as he thrust his antlers forward again, trying to get her more frontally now.

The pyrite rex looked up just in time, quickly raising her massive paws down to slap the head of the prey upward. She felt the back of her hands hit against the hard antlers, pushing them up enough for them to miss her. And to have the throat of the large animal right in front of Alyanna.

She wouldn’t let that go to waste. Quickly she pushed forward, feeling the drag of the wind on her, out of the corner of her eyes she could see that the stag tried to pull up his hooves for another attack. She wouldn’t let it do that. She thrust her head forward, clamping her jaws shut around her preys throat. Thanks to her powerful muscles she then pulled the stag down to the ground, tilting her body to the side to add more weight to the pull onto the hard dirt. The stag landed with a wheeze, when Alyanna already pushed her teeth deeper, drawing blood with little to no problem.

She placed one hand on the side of the creature, then twisted her head, listening to the sound of bones breaking and cracking. Immediately the stag went limp as its neck was broken, the last breath breathed out.

Alyanna kept her position for a little longer, trying to focus on breathing slowly to calm down. Only when she thought she couldn’t hear the blood rushing in her ears anymore, did she finally release the tight grip on the large stag, staring it down. “I hope the ancients will be pleased with you”, she breathed, before she fell back onto her behind to take another deep breath. She’d done it. She’d won.
