Idem

Rare Marking

Idem

Overview

It is said that the souls of these rexals are tied heavily to nature and it's beings. That is until one of them resembles an ox, in which case said individual refuses the connection toroughly, stubborn as they are.

This marking is new and heavily in testing! It may not exist after beta, and may be changed with little to no warning. Proceed with caution.
This marking cannot be used with Rare Marking Crystals, and does not drop in Rare Crystal Deposits.

Rules

  • Idem has different manifestations depending on if your rex is Armored or Furred!
    • Furred Idem can imitate any real-life wild or domesticated mammal.
    • Armored Idem can imitate any real-life wild or domesticated non-avian reptile.
    • Both Furred and Armored Idem are allowed to imitate scaled mammals!
  • Haplorhines are generally not allowed.
  • Animals that are hybrids (ligers, zonkeys, etc) are also not allowed.
  • Mythological and fantasy species are not allowed.
  • Rexals can never mimic birds, fish, or amphibians! Only mammals or non-avian reptiles.

  • Idem cannot imitate Void or Akoya, even if the animal you have chosen has an iridescent look.
  • Idem's colors are always flat. No shading is allowed, even if the animal has shiny fur/scales.
    • The only exception to this is if Varnish is present!
  • Melanistic (dark), piebald (spotted or patchy), and leucistic/albino (extremely light) versions of animals can be used only if the rexal's genotype includes the Somber, Snowed, or Lambent markings respectively.
    • Any animal that is darker than it normally would be would need Somber.
    • Any animal that has asymmetrical white markings would need Snowed.
    • Any animal that is pastel or lighter than it normally would be would need Lambent.

  • You must link your reference(s) of the chosen animal. Design moderators should be able to identify the species being imitated.
    • When using domesticated animals, you must also list the morph or breed used in your design notes!
  • The imitation must be as close to the real animal's appearance as possible. Both painting and drawing are acceptable as long as the markings accurately represent the animal.
  • Keep in mind that the throat armor of the rexal will interfere with the Idem marking, but how you incorporate it into your design is up to you.
    • It should, however, look natural and seem to be an integral part of the animal's look.

  • Idem can be carried, meaning it can be part of a rexal's genotype without being expressed, even when another marking is already carried.
  • Idem sits on top of all other markings, except for very rare (VR) markings.
  • Naked parts on animals cannot be considered. Rexals must always have their scales or fur. Think of the fur running seamlessly even over the furless parts of the animal. Coloring any part of your rex in the skin of an animal cannot be done.
  • While Idem allows for the presentation of naturally occurring patterns, please still show respect and self restraint. The general Rexalia design rules of no recognizable symbolism still apply. Just as you can not use fisher's blush to create a city skyline or company logo on a rexal's face, you may not use Idem to create such things on a rexal either, regardless of what may be on the animal you are drawing inspiration from.
  • Free markings are not allowed on this marking other than paw pads.

Special Interactions

Some markings interact uniquely with Idem, creating distinctive presentations when combined. Here's a list of these special markings.

Snowed

When Snowed and Idem are both present on a rexal, they may imitate an animal with Piebald!.

An example will be released soon!

Somber

When Somber is present on a geno, you may choose to mimic a melanistic animal!

Here is an example of a melanistic leopard rex!

Lambent

When Lambent is present on a geno, you may choose to mimic an albino or leucistic animal!

Here is an example of a leucistic mule deer rex!

Here is an example of an albino pacific gopher snake rex!

Varnish

When Varnish is present on a geno, you may choose to mimic an iridescent animal!

Here is an example of an akhal-teke horse rex!
