Overview

Rex are unsure what makes some of their markings shine so nicely in the light, but they are sure it must be a good omen if it they see something so shimmery!

Rules

  • Varnish makes the marking shiny, but it should still adhere to it's normal color rules.
  • You are free to make it as shiny as you want, but it must at least have a lighter shine to it!
  • This modifier does not HAVE to show!
    • You are free to choose not to show it at all. In this case, make sure to mention it with your design submission.
  • Varnish is allowed to make as much or as little of the design shiny as you'd like!
  • Apart from it making the coat shiny and metallic, it can also show a few sparkles to really sell the shine effect.

Boundaries

Copy paste these images directly into your art program over your design and set them to multiply for the best work effect.

Varnish Examples

Pre-Rendered Varnish

For your convenience, we've prepared pre-rendered PNGs that simulate the 'Varnish' effect. These grayscale images can be overlaid onto a marking, and then adjusted to fit the marking's boundary using a clipping layer or erasing tool. To achieve the 'Varnish' effect's distinctive metallic sheen, you'll need to use layer modes.

While Overlay, Hard Light, Soft Light, and Vivid Light are recommended for optimal results, feel free to experiment with other layer modes if they provide the look you're after. The key is to maintain the marking's metallic characteristic.

The use of these PNGs is entirely at your discretion. You're encouraged to modify and adapt them as you see fit to align with your vision for your Rexal's design.
